About Us

ITISARAS. Our Itihaas, our Sanskriti, our Rajneeti, and our Samaj. India is an incredible edifice which stands on these four, formidable pillars and casting a mature, impartial eye on them – separately, and in unison – is at the heart of our mission. ITISARAS is a passionate attempt to rediscover, appreciate and preserve India’s past, so that we may further strengthen our today and aim high for the future.
Itisaras is a registered non-profit organisation under Society Registration Act 1860. It is an umbrella organisation under which we run different projects. Currently, we are focusing on three projects – Dhaara, Dharohar and Dheer.

Vision: To preserve and embrace the tangible and intangible cultural heritage and make people well aware citizens.
Mission: To increase awareness about the dichotomy in the understanding of Indian identity and diversity.

Itihaas, Sanskriti, Rajneeti, Samaj – History, Culture, Polity, Society. Four of the cardinal building blocks of any nation, and the core ingredients in the heady recipe that is India. Out of a concern for all of them and their perception in our fellow citizen’s minds, has emerged ITISARAS – ‘ITI’haas, ‘SA’nskriti, ‘RA’jneeti, ‘S’amaj.

About our agenda, the primary scope of the organization is to promote the socio-political realities of India. The aim is not just to state facts about Indian culture and society, but also to examine it under the microscope, and to bring forth realities and truths that are lesser known. We try to focus on topics that do not get enough coverage but are equally instrumental in defining India. Our working body runs on the ideal of equal participation so that every member has a say about the way in which they absorb a particular topic. Our articles are an amalgamation of facts and opinions. Within both the forgone archaic and traditional practices of old to the existing ones rooted in patriarchy and other evils, we try to rediscover the nation, in ways that are different from the conventional.

It is our attempt to connect deeper with our roots, cherish them, criticize them, but most importantly, be aware of them. It is often the case, that due to the predominance of the West, we tend to attach the notion of backwardness to the East. We consciously choose to stay aloof from our past because its shortcomings have been drilled into our minds before we can even comprehend the entire picture.

Hence, this organization aims to propagate awareness and inquisitiveness about the miracles as well as the flaws of India and its people. Divided along the lines of regionality and linguistic boundaries, we hope to make people realize that the hills of Arunachal and the backwaters of Kerala, are as Indian as the fields in Punjab and the Ganga running through the North. As rational, free-thinking youth of the nation, we consider it our responsibility, to keep the flames of heritage burning, to try to recover the lost, but most of all, to ensure that every piece of opinion is grounded in liberty, democracy and equal rights. There was a consensus among the members that the information available on Indian culture, society and polity is largely misinterpreted, adulterated and misrepresented. Living in the age where information is easily at our disposal, it is only fair to have adequate knowledge of the culture that bred us and the society that we are active members of.
